Comments

Hello there, I just wanted to let people know about a site from a spanish prog band called Mapa, a very interesting one.

Comments

readers may be interested in my new album 'Arisen', which features keyboards. Progressive rock with classic rock sensibilities. Multi-layered arrangements, expanded song structures, with an emphasis on melody and musicality. Plenty of music samples at my website. Thanks.

Helay, helay! Love your website - verrrry cool. Scott Connor, here - drummer for Genesis tribute band, Gabble Ratchet. We have a show coming up and I wanted to pass the particulars along. We are headlining at Martini Blues in Huntington Beach, CA, on February 19th, 2005. We have rehearsed feverishly to provide a top-notch show and I think no one will be disappointed. There will be a sprinkling of later-era stuff, with plenty of good old stuff for the true Genesis fanatic to enjoy. Matt Brown and myself were in the band Cinema Show with the late Shaun Guerin (God rest his soul). Visit our website at: www.homepage.mac.com/firthy/gabbleratchet/index.html Place: Martini Blues, Huntington Beach, California (www.martiniblues.com) Date: Saturday, February 19th, 2005 Time: 10pm (opening band, 8:30pm) Cover: $10

Reading comments here from lots of people about Clutching at Straws being Marillion's primary work artistically and creatively is a bit confusing to me. It includes a number of good songs, is a nice album to listen to for any mood, but is hardly a very original piece, at least not musically. I believe the world has got little chance or none, to see another album like Fugazi. This album has got everything: music that make you forget everything around, lyrics that you can't get out of your mind once you listened to them, and an originality in concept story which the other albums can't compete. Only seven songs, which are enough to set a milestone in musical history.

Keith Emerson and ELP are the most underrated musician and band of all time. As a child of the 60's and 70's (b1955). ELP's musical moments are matched by only a few. The sad facts; Lake's lyrics suck, the band takes strange chances, these guys needed a producer to rein in their ideas. But! Listen to the piece Trilogy off the same name album. Listen in a stage environment, the musicianship is amazing, the climax can be goose bumps.

I was Rogers good pal up till the very end! I loved Roger. Roger was going back on the road. I was working with him. We would go down to land park, and Roger and myself would jam. However, when Roger played by himself, it was like the pied piper, people would just could out of the wood work. He was always gracious, and would sometimes say: Hi, I'm Roger Voudouris, 11 gold records, etc. it was a line, a good one though. We were suppose to go to a party, and Roger was getting real sick. I took him to the Hospital. He was released, came home, I got a call that evening by his Mom, Eve, that Roger was gone! I couldn't believe, I drove over to the house, blew by the Police, there was Roger. My best friend in the World, dead, at 48. He had so much to live for. Oh yes, Roger had problems. But who in this world is perfect, anyhow. Well, I had been going over bunch of old stuff Roger did, and was re-recording, some of it. It's the best damn music I have heard in years, no lie!!! Roger, and Vince? Anyhow, Roger had this little blue phone book, that later I would sometime carry for him, because he would loose it, told me to call Vince, about the masters to this music. Well? Things got real weird, and I truly respect the Voudouris family. But I sure hope someone, even If I don't get the chance, Roger did want me to do it, and I was working on it. His mom Eve, told me the next morning, to take the types, and finish what Roger wanted done with it. I just couldn't stop crying. Those people in a very short time became family. However, I didn't up until his death, know his beautiful children, his brother Steve, and one e-wife. Roger told me to get in touch with you! Vince. The music has so much passion on it. I can't stop playing it. Hard Times, Karla, some of, I believe his best work. Roger is greatly missed by so many in Sacramento. I will never forget him, he was my best friend, till the end of time. Garry

Hi, all! I read in the review-section about Barclay James Harvest and I wanted to add my contribution, too, but don't know how to do it, hence I write it here: If I had to choose one specific album of their brilliant catalogue it would be "Everyone is Everybody Else". Is it prog? Hard to say, but it contains all the element to make an excellent album... BTW - the "How to review prog" article was amusing... It described directly the music that I love!

Comments

I have read your entries on Sebastian Hardie. I'd like to add that I had the good fortune of seeing this great band live in Melbourne at Uni c.1975. They did a session covering Mike Oldfield's Tubular Bells and did an excellent set. It was the first time I'd seen anyone attempting to play this complex work. They then played some of their own material from the Four Moments album. I bought that and later bought the follow up Windchase. I eagerly awaited further output but lost track of them. I believe their influences would include Mike Oldfield, Pink Floyd and Yes. I was really sorry when I'd heard that they had disbanded: unfortunately the Oz music scene (late 70's) was not robust enough to support this innovative group. Pop (Sherbet & Skyhooks), Disco (killed a lot of live bands), Punk and Heavy Metal (AC/DC) were in vogue. Sebastian Hardie's lead singer, Mario Millo, later worked with Jon English (singer/actor) to record the Pop theme for Against The Wind (Oz TV mini-series) called "Six Ribbons". He went on to do further work for Movies/TV music. Mario Millo's home page is at:www.mariomillo.com/

As a keyboard player, progressive rock fan, lighting designer & sales & marketing specialist, I see a desperate need for fans of this genre to seriously unite, combining their best attributes together in order to spread the word. With the mediocre rise of modern pop, hip hop, and other watered down musical styles dominating all record sales & most club performances, what this genre really has is a media awareness problem, nothing more. If ELP could headline at the US festival, I see no reason why bands like Dream Theater, Spock's Beard or Transatlantic couldn't be featured in these various "benefit shows" that keep popping up everywhere. It' really up to the record companies, the fans & the promoters, but a little free PR, a lot of networking, and a solid grass roots effort by the faithful doesn't hurt.

This CD was released by Rewind Records/Sony Music Special Products (www.songhausmusic.com) and these guys are totally awesome. I would assume that they fall under the keyboard-based progressive rock as they list 2 keyboardists in the band. This band is truly awesome and I wish I could read more up on them. Hi, This is indeed a really good site. My progressive beginnings started with Asia and I am now into most of their associated bands. I got to see Qango earlier this year (Wetton, Palmer, Kilminster, Young)performing classic Asia and ELP material. This brought to my attention John Young who is an extremely talented keyboard player. I have since been to see his solo set on 3 occasions. He performs his own material which is semi-progressive/progressive. He is also a very good songwriter and has collaborated with John Wetton on albums such as Battlelines and Arkangel. His website can be found onyoungjohn.co.uk/index.html Linda

Hi, Nice to find this list. I am prog/jazz keyboardist and drummer/percussionist. I finally have my own prog band called "Logarhythm" based in central Ohio. It literally took years to put this together. I found a bunch of like-minded musicians who were just as discontented as me with playing Skynard, disco and other and pop crap at sports bars and the like. I still play in those kinds of covers bands to make $$, but hope to just focus on this project in the near future as it grows. I am sure many of you have been down this road, too, holding string chords on bad synths when you could have taken it better had the "Am" pad you had to hold all night for the wannabe Yngies would have at least been on a Mellotron!

The Moody Blues do have a new CD called "Strange Times" that just came out in July '99. This new CD is great and was produced by the band themselves. I would highly recommend you buy a copy for your collection.

Hello. I am writing to inform you that the Cast links are all outdated. The new link to the official Cast site is "www.1russ.com/cast.htm". Most of the pages are still intact so you can relate all the other pages with "www.1russ.com", instead of "www2.4dcomm.com/". This is also true for the Band Equinox." www.1russ.com/equinox.htm". Great page keep up the good work. Progsparity, Russ

Fantastic site. Great content. I'm into keyboard based prog between 1968 and now. I'd love to hear from any others especially in the north of England who have the same likes. Please recommend the best Mellotron based albums especially

I really enjoyed your site. I signed up for the mailing list on onelist recently, and I found out about the site there. I've rediscovered prog in the last couple of years thanks to the internet. I'm just starting to get into trading cd's, which has worked out great so far. Unfortunately my want list keeps getting longer!
